Regulatory Bodies For Accountants:

There are several accounting bodies within the UK and all of the qualified accountants out there should be members of one or more of the following bodies:

  • The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants - There are three sections of this regulatory body. For England and Wales there is the ICAEW, for Scotland the ICAS is the relevant regulatory body and for Ireland there is the ICAI.
  • CIMA is the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants
  • CIPFA is the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) set the standards of reporting for UK accountants. They monitor and enforce the accounting and auditing standards for the other professional accounting bodies within the UK (listed above).
